SMUD Selects OSI Technology for a New Advanced Distribution Management System
May 10, 2018 -- Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) has been selected by the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) to supply a new Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) based on OSI's monarch operations technology (OT) platform. This state-of-the-art solution will interface with SMUD's existing Energy Management System and Outage Management System, enabling improved distribution operations and overall system reliability.
In addition to OSI's secure and scalable SCADA platform, the new ADMS will provide fully integrated components to enable a Distribution Network Operating Model, State Estimation, Switch Order Management, Study Mode, Load Shed and Restoration, Fault Location Isolation Service Restoration, Feeder Reconfiguration, Integrated Volt-VAR Control and Optimization, Operator Training Simulator, Short-term Load Forecasting, and Protection Coordination. SMUD and OSI have also formed a strategic technology partnership to develop and deploy industry-leading capabilities for Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS).
'ADMS is a foundational step for SMUD in support of the shift from a one-way centralized distribution system to a two-way decentralized distribution system for management of distributed energy resources such as rooftop solar, large solar farms, EV batteries and other sources,' said Lora Anguay, Director of Distribution Operations at SMUD. 'The OSI system will provide improved visualization and situational awareness to the distribution system operators to better manage the distribution grid, improve reliability with use of smart meter AMI data and real-time data to reflect the true current state of the grid, and improve utilization of SMUD resources during outages.'
'SMUD is an industry leader recognized for its commitment to energy efficiency and environmental stewardship,' said Hormoz Kazemzadeh, VP of Distribution and Smart Grid at OSI. 'OSI is proud to be delivering our ADMS to SMUD as an operations technology platform of the future, enabling them to meet the evolving needs of a modernized grid.'
