Space-Time Insight and the California ISO Named Finalists in 2011 Platts Global Energy Awards
Situational Intelligence Solution Recognized in `Sustainable Technology Innovation of the Year` Category
FREMONT, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/03/11 -- Space-Time Insight, a provider of next-generation situational intelligence solutions, today announced that it has been named a finalist in the 13th Annual Platts Global Energy Awards, for the deployment of its geospatial and visual analytics applications within a state-of-the-art control center at the California Independent System Operator (ISO). The 2011 finalists, selected from more than 200 nominations, were announced this week by program host Platts, the leading global provider of energy, petrochemicals and metals information.
Established in 1999 and often described as 'the Oscars' of the energy industry, Platts Global Energy Awards highlight corporate and individual innovation, leadership and superior performance in 19 categories spanning the entire energy complex. Together with the California ISO, Space-Time Insight is on the short list for the 'Sustainable Technology Innovation of the Year' award category, which recognizes technologies focused on renewable energy. Winners will be named at the 2011 Platts Global Energy Awards celebration, to be held December 1, 2011 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.
'We congratulate our finalists and look forward to spotlighting their accomplishments and all others when we unveil the Global Energy Awards winners in December,' said Larry Neal, president of Platts.
The California ISO manages electricity flow across 80 percent of California's power grid, delivering 286 billion kilowatt-hours annually over 25,000 miles of power lines. Using Space-Time Insight's geospatial applications for situational intelligence in combination with sophisticated video displays, the organization is able to visualize, correlate and analyze large volumes of raw data from multiple sources in order to detect anomalies on the electric grid, achieve efficiencies, maximize reliability and optimize the use of alternative power sources.
'California has one of the most ambitious agendas for addressing climate change in the world,' said Steve Berberich, president and CEO at the California ISO. 'Because of its 33 percent by 2020 renewables portfolio standard, California is really leading the way and serving as a dress rehearsal for America.'
'California ISO's use of state-of-the-art geospatial displays, combined with our applications for situational intelligence, demonstrate the power of visualization in driving sustainable decision-making and greater energy efficiencies in a real-time, data-intensive environment,' said Rob Schilling, CEO at Space-Time Insight. 'We are honored to be recognized as a finalist for this prestigious award.'
The awards event will be preceded on the morning of December 1 with an associated event, Platts Global Energy Outlook Forum, which features roundtable discussions from debates from executives, government officials and industry leaders on 'The World's Quest for Clean Energy.'
