The pulp and paper industry has excellent opportunities to develop further. In recent years the industry has invested in product development and some companies have added new ways to use the timber at their mills due to the current difficult market situation.
During the World Biorefinery Conference from 29 to 30 May, corporate executives and researchers presented the very latest results of companies' development of by-products from the pulping process. The speakers included Sveaskog's CEO Per-Olof Wedin, Domsjö's former CEO Ola Hildingsson, and Bjarne Holmbom, winner of the Marcus Wallenberg Prize.
'This is the first time that SPCI has organised a conference with a biorefinery theme, focusing on which products can be extracted from a sulphite or sulphate mill,' commented Marina Asp, CEO of SPCI (the Swedish Association of Paper and Pulp Engineers). 'We will be giving people who missed this opportunity yet another chance to explore this topic at World Biorefinery 2014, which will be held at World Bioenergy in Jönköping.'
World Biorefinery is a joint project of SPCI and Elmia.
