TÜV Rheinland PTL receives SRCC accreditation for solar thermal testing services
TÜV Rheinland PTL, North America’s largest solar and photovoltaic testing company, has received accreditation from the Solar Rating and Certification Corporation (SRCC) as a laboratory for the testing of solar thermal collectors. With that, TÜV Rheinland PTL is the second laboratory, after the Group’s Cologne-based Solar Testing Centre, which is holding this accreditation.
With the accreditation, TÜV Rheinland’s service spectrum that is available worldwide to the solar industry is extended by a significant component, since the demand on the part of manufacturers for testing and certification according to the SRCC standard remains high.
TÜV Rheinland PTL was audited to SRCC standard 100 covering test methods and minimum standards for certifying solar collectors. This standard and the ISO 98060-1, 2 and 3 standards are included in TÜV Rheinland PTL’s current ISO 17025 accreditation scope. Many U.S.-based rebate and incentive programmes require solar thermal technology to have SRCC certification.
The Solar Thermal Service at TÜV Rheinland PTL includes inspection, safety tests and quality assurance for the manufacture, fabrication and installation of systems on residential and commercial buildings. Additionally, the Testing Centre performs in-service examination of solar thermal collectors and associated subsystems.
Testing services using the latest in innovative technologies assure that solar thermal, PV, CPV and CSP systems comply with electrical, mechanical and environmental requirements for quality and product safety.
About 80 per cent of all solar module manufacturers have their products tested at TÜV Rheinland in order to obtain international market approvals. TÜV Rheinland PTL, in tandem with TÜV Rheinland’s global network, tests and certifies renewable energy products including solar, wind, hydrogen, and storage technologies. The company is a unique partnership with Arizona State University, an institution with more than 50 years of research on solar energy and extensive solar testing know-how.
In addition to the laboratories at TÜV Rheinland PTL in Arizona, TÜV Rheinland now operates five laboratories worldwide for the testing of solar modules and systems, in which 170 experts are employed. Testing centres are located in Cologne, Shanghai, Taichun, and two in Yokohama.
