Wärtsilä´s consultation process in Finland completed
Wärtsilä Corporation, Press release, December 8, 2010 at 15:00 EET
As announced on October 18, 2010 Wärtsilä has decided to implement a global design for all its support functions in order to support the business in the most efficient way.
To adjust to the new global way of working and lower volumes a consultation process with employee representatives was initiated with the aim to reduce 130 jobs in the support functions in Finland. In the consultations concluded today the redundancy need has been verified to be a maximum of 85 permanent employees, of which 41 employees in the information management organisation. The majority of the redundancies will take place in Vaasa. The number of employees in Wärtsilä´s Finnish units today totals 3,440, of which in Vaasa 2,870, in Turku 290 and in Helsinki 280.
In addition to the permanent employee redundancies, the number of personnel will be reduced by not continuing temporary contracts and by retirement schemes. The persons under threat of redundancy will be offered job application and re-employment consultation and support for further training. In its Information Management organisation, Wärtsilä is preparing to build competence centres in China and India to support the growing Asian markets and Wärtsilä´s global functions.
On October 18, 2010 Wärtsilä announced a plan to reduce approximately 400 jobs globally in its support functions and information management. In addition to Finland reductions are planned to be made in approximately 30 other countries. All these job reductions are part of the restructuring plan to reduce 1,400 jobs globally as announced in January.
