“waste to energy” continues to grow
Exhibition and Conference for Energy from Waste and Biomass opens in Bremen
Anyone who is involved in climate protection and energy supply security can today no longer get past the topic of waste and biomass. This is the message of “waste to energy” 2007 which was opened today, Wednesday, by Ronald-Mike Neumeyer, the Bremen Senator of Civil Engineering, Environment and Transportation. The fair organisers Messe Bremen are expecting about 2,000 professionals to attend the international exhibition and conference on 9th and10th May.
“The ‘waste to energy’ is the most important meeting place for this industry. With well-tried and tested and innovative concepts it can make a decisive contribution to clean, secure energy supply”, said Dr Ines Freesen, the Managing Director of Freesen & Partner GmbH, Messe Bremen’s cooperation partner. This appraisal is confirmed impressively by the event’s strong growth figures: Exhibition Managing Director Hans-Peter Schneider reported that the number of exhibitors had risen from 96 in 2005 to about 140 this year, equal to an increase of 46 per cent. Exhibition stand area had risen too - by 50 per cent. Industry delegations from Hong Kong and Chile are expected to attend “waste to energy” for the first time. The German Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel is the patron of the exhibition.
Within a total area of 10,000 square meters in Hall 5 of the Bremen Exhibition Centre plant engineering companies, plant operators, suppliers, know-how providers, and industrial users demonstrate how electricity, heat and mobility are generated from waste and biomass. Trade visitors from the public and private sector, from business and finance can learn of the latest developments in technology, application fields and market conditions in conference sessions, workshops and panel discussions.
“The utilization of fuels that are produced from biomass or waste will play an increasing role in power supply and the waste management industry in the future. And at the focus of interest will be fuels of which users have had little experience so far”, forecasts Dr Thomas Marzi from the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety, and Energy Technology UMSICHT. Applied research and development would as a result take on an important role.
Peter Hoffmeyer, the President of the Federation of the German Waste Management Industry BDE, is convinced that in the face of rising prices for primary energy and the current climate debate this form of energy recovery is set to gain significance. Hoffmeyer, who is also CEO at Nehlsen AG, calls for the waste management sector to position itself more strongly in the climate and resource debate. It was necessary for the industry to determine the contribution it can provide and then make efficient use of the potential offered by waste and biomass.
“waste to energy” is open in Hall 5 of the Bremen Exhibition Centre on 9th and 10th May 2007 from 9:00 to 18:00 hrs. The event’s main sponsors are Nehlsen AG and swb AG.
