This animal remains incineration system is used for just 30-days a year. So it has to be perfect!
It has to be one of the largest incineration plants we have ever designed, built and installed. A colossal 5000kg/hr animal remains incineration system purpose-designed and engineered and then installed at Makkah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was custom-built, installed and commissioned by us in 2014 and the most unusual aspect of this massive plant is that it is designed to operate on a non-stop, continuous basis … for just 30 consecutive days of the year. After that ultra-intensive performance period it is shut down and remains unused until the following year!
The purpose of this unique animal remains incineration system is to destroy the thousands of tonnes of animal remains resulting from the Hajj Festival at which up to three million Muslims undertake their pilgrimage to Makkah, Islam’s most holy city.
Throughout its annual operational period the animal remains incineration system is continuously operating at high capacity and it was specially designed by us to cope with this exceptional workload. At such an important festival and under such intense pressure there is zero tolerance for error, which is precisely why the authorities chose Matthews Environmental Solutions to ensure unfailing excellence of operation.
At the end of the festival the animal remains incineration system is shut down and ‘mothballed’ in readiness for its re-commissioning the following year. As a crucial part of our design we built in a number of features and processes associated with a controlled shutdown to ensure effective conservation of the system throughout its long dormant period.
As part of our aftersales support we provide an annual on-site re-commissioning service to prepare the animal remains incineration system for its hectic period of employment.
This year the Hajj Festival falls between 19-24 August and already we have dispatched a small team of engineers to Makkah who will now undertake a series of pre-commissioning inspections of all the sub-systems before re-commissioning the entire animal remains incineration system and carrying out small-scale load testing.
On completion, the team will also ensure that the waste incineration plant is primed and ready to deal with the Festival’s enormous volume of animal remains waste and that it is capable of operating under the most intense pressure throughout its 30-day continuous campaign.
This ability to deal with extreme demands is just one of the reasons why we are recognised as the world’s leading waste incineration specialists.
