B&W PGG's mercury control options include:
- MercPlus System - B&W PGG designed the MercPlus system to enhance mercury capture and minimize PAC usage at power plants that use low chlorine coals, such as PRB.
- Absorption Plus (Hg) System - B&W PGG developed this patented technology to inhibit mercury re-emission and to increase the total mercury captured and retained in a wet FGD system.
- Powdered activated carbon (PAC) injection - A process that involves injecting powdered activated carbon (PAC) in flue gas in combination with a conventional spray absorption process to remove mercury.
- Sorbent Injection - It is a recognized concept that PAC can be poisoned by SO3 in the flue gas which reduces the PAC's ability to capture mercury. By injecting a sorbent such as trona or SBC prior to the PAC injection location, this poisoning can be reduced and allow the PAC to be better utilized.
- Toxecon - An equipment arrangement that adds a smaller baghouse after an ESP to act as a polishing device. This increases the effectiveness of the PAC by allowing it to remain exposed and react with the flue gas for a longer period of time. This polishing baghouse also collects the finer particulate and PAC that may not have been collected in the ESP.
- Toxecon II - This technology involves injection of PAC directly into and ESP after the primary fields. This arrangement allows for the ash collected in the first fields, typically 80-90%, to still be sold for use in concrete production since it does not contain any PAC.
