Model RBC - Power Conditioner
Industry is more dependent than ever on a high quality electrical power supply. Whether you are a food or beverage producer , manufacturer of industrial or consumer goods, iron or steel works or treating water, your operation must overcome numerous challenges to ensure a consistent flow of energy.
Product Overview
The RBC Power Conditioner is a simple, robust and cost effective solution to the power quality problems faced by your operations every day:
- Slow voltage fluctuations
- Over-voltages
- Harmonic and inter-harmonic voltage distortions
- Voltage drop-outs, micro-Cuts and flicker
- Low power factor
These anomalies directly impact your facilities productivity and profitability; damaging your assets, causing downtime and increasing your energy costs. The RBC, developed and built by IEM Power Systems, protects your facility against these issues efficiently and reliably.
Power Quality
The diagram below shows the typical proportion of power quality incidents that impact your facility. Sector A - Area showing how a rotary power conditioner will absorb the majority of power anomalies and protect the facility from the problems associated with them. This sector represents over 95% of power quality issues. Sector B - Incidents handled by a UPS solution, with full ride-through capability and secondary back-up power source. Such UPS systems, with diesel engine gesets, manage voltage drops / loss for extended periods.
Design / Construction
The IEM Power Systems RBC is a robust, dynamic mains conditioner suitable for low and medium voltages at 50 or 60Hz.
- A brushless synchronous machine
- A starting system
- A three phase choke
- A power distribution cabinet
The RBC is built to a rigid, vibration proof frame and, as an option, can be integrated in a soundproof enclosure.
The RBC Mains Conditioner- The RBC maintains a constant voltage to your facility and compensates slow voltage fluctuations. Slow voltage fluctuations may impair the performance of critical motors, pumps, compressors and over time this damage reduces their effectiveness and lifespan.
- The RBC filtrates rapid fluctuations, typically voltage surges (high) and sags (low). These power anomalies affect sensitive components such as motors, variable frequency drives and CNC controls - items that can when damaged can slow or halt production, and may be difficult to source and replace.
- Filters out voltage harmonics from the incoming grid supply, protecting your equipment and improving efficiency.
- Protects the mains supply from harmonics that can be caused by your non-linear loads.
- Eliminates brown-outs and micro-cuts. Typically, this will remove over 95% of power interruptions your facility faces each year, minimizing costly downtime for restarting operations and wasted part-processed materials.
- Prevents flicker by smoothing out rapid voltage fluctuations the RBC protects your electrical infrastructure and maintains a safe and productive working environment.
- Provides power factor correction, increasing efficiency, reducing energy costs, avoiding utility imposed penalty costs, eliminating the need for costly and unreliable, PF correction capacitor banks.
- Provides high short-circuit power: - Fast fault-clearing capacity ensuring protections selectivity - Suitable for high peak currents (motors and mechanical loads) - Suitable for high crest factors (non-linear loads)
Up to 98% efficiency is achieved by the RBC, as the active power is supplied by the mains without flowing through the synchronous machine, which only supplies the reactive power.
The RBC is flexible, it can be easily connected in parallel and is therefore modular and scalable to grow with your power protection requirements. The RBC can be configured for redundant systems and also adapted to MV input.
