Ropatec - Vertical Axis Turbine
From Renewable Energy
It was the year 1996 when ROPAT founder Robert Niederkofler began the development of a new concept of exploiting wind energy, based on the movement of a vertical axis turbine and with unique characteristics in the world. His vision was to raise public awareness of the importance of renewable energy and at the same time bring it to remote areas of the world: schools and villages not reached by electricity, shelters, Telecom stations and for other applications.

The first 3 kW wind farms were installed in 1997 in the Alps on the Cima Libera refuge (3,152m above sea level) and on the Sennes refuge (2,126m above sea level) as well as in Antarctica in close collaboration with the CNR, monitored in these different contexts and in partly extreme environmental conditions. Starting from these experiences, ROPAT was able to acquire significant technical and scientific know-how in 4 years of experimentation, which was transferred in 2001 to the newly established company Ropatec Srl, which in the following years developed various wind turbines from 1 kW to 30 kW and sold over 1200 in over 30 countries for OffGrid and OnGrid applications, for Antarctic research institutes (IT-D-ES-FRA), government organizations (United Nations, Greenpeace, etc.) private companies and large companies such as . Ericsson, T-Mobil, McDonald's, Mediaworld, Audi, B&Q, Volvo, NH Hotel, Erdal, Aldi Süd and others. This allowed the company and its CEO Robert Niederkofler (2007-2015) to position itself at the highest levels in the world for expertise in renewable energy and distributed microgeneration. Obtaining the Ecomondo awards in 2009, the European Business Award and Telemaco (Il Sole 24 ore) in 2012 and the European Business Award again in 2015 crowned this project. In 2007 the company was the promoter of the law on the incentive for small wind turbines in Italy, as well as being invited to world congresses (1st Smart Grid Congress in Washington in 2008, House of Commons London 2009, 1st Congress on Distributed Microgeneration – Brasilia in 2012, Desertec – Berlin, South Africa, USA and others.
