TENMAT's SINDANYO grades are designed to operate at elevated temperatures offering, primarily, thermal insulation performance, but also outstanding electrical properties. Highly resistant to thermal shock, these products exhibit low heat storage and thermal conductivity properties, making them the preferred choice for energy conservation applications. SINDANYO is available in boards and machined components. The grades are variations of specially selected cement and fibres for outstanding performance.
SINDANYO H91 is the most well developed asbestos-free cement board available. The material exhibits excellent strength even at high temperatures up to 700°C.
SINDANYO L21 has a continuous operating temperature up to 230°C.
SINDANYO can be treated to reduce the possibility for moisture absorption by a sodium silicate dipping (indicated by the suffix 3 e.g. L23) or silicone impregnated (indicated by the suffix 6 e.g. L26).
L21, L23 and L26 are ideally suited for arc chute applications having been approved and in use on transportation and power station switchgear throughout many countries and for many years.
H91 is used in heat and electrical insulation applications in induction furnaces, billet heater boxes, oven cladding, cathode support pads, platen insulation, furnaces and smelters. It is THE industry standard for high temperature insulation boards and structural insulation boards.
Field of Applications
Aluminium Industry
Aluminium primary production and secondary processing plants benefit from the use of TENMAT's extensive range of products wherever heat must be contained, electrical energy controlled or wear resisted. TENMAT products offer cost effective solutions to improve energy utilisation, reduce weight and operating costs and increase life cycle operation.
SINDANYO L23 is used in the potroom in strip form between pot covers and cathode frames and in pad or plate forms between the anode support, the control gear and the super structure.
SINDANYO H91 is an ideal material for crust breaker discs, busbar and primary frame insulation and door frames.
ARCLEX provides the necessary electrical insulation of the cathode frame on its concrete base and to insulate busbars from the steel retaining and cathode frames.
FIREFLY FF700 MILLBOARD is a popular choice for many sealing requirements including syphon tube gaskets in molten metal transfer equipment.
FIREFLY FF700 MILLBOARD provides the insulating layer between the crucible and its hot face refractory lining, reducing heat losses thereby maintaining melt temperature longer. It is also used underneath the pots. FF700 possesses the necessary strength to be used as a permanent former when casting concrete.
Inside the pot FIREFLY FF700 MILLBOARD shields the anodes in order to exclude alumina whilst gas heating takes place during start up. Once operating temperature is reached the millboard becomes a sacrificial component in the pot.
RF1000 grade products are used as the insulation in crucibles, transport ladles and launder systems ensuring cost effective maintenance of liquid metal temperature for long periods of time.
CS1150 pouring nozzles have replaced conventional calcium silicate and cast iron tubes for flow control of liquid aluminium.
NITRASIL greatly extends the working life of graphite shafts used in rotary degassing equipment.
NITRASIL is hard and wear resistant. Its use as seats and pistons in valving operations ensures trouble free performance.
REFRAVER is used to resist attacks by fluorine in electrical and thermal environments.
Railways
Railways
Various Railway companies within the UK and Europe have approved TENMAT L21, L23 and L26 materials for fabricated arc chutes for both trackside and rolling stock.
TENMAT arc chute materials are working in applications up to 11,000 V / 2,000 A AC and 3,000 V / 1,000 A DC. One particular GEC designed arc chute utilises L21 and ARCLEX and is used on the Type 319 Thames Link EMU which is designed to work at 750 V DC (30,000 A breaking load) or 25,000 V AC.
Network Rail have approved L21 for several types of arc chutes used in the power switchgear at track side substations, which provide power for mainline train services in the South East of England. Other arc chutes are also used by Metro & Tramway authorities, SNCF France uses L26 for arc chutes constructed to specification St 273 Cat 1.
In Norway, ARCLEX is used by Oslo Tramways because of its high resistance to electric arcs and very low moisture absorption providing excellent electrical properties in humid atmospheres. It is also used on railway track side and signaling switchgear.
REFRAVER S is specified by some of the world's most prestigious companies, e.g. the French railways SNCF to St 273 Cat 2, Belgian railways, the underground systems in Paris, Milan and Chile. Major switchgear manufacturers use REFRAVER for arduous applications. Russian Railways have now approved REFRAVER for use in their high performance switches via a major European switch manufacturer.
Switchgear
Switchgear
Where high power electrical supplies need to be turned on and off, one of the traditional methods of controlling the electrical arcs is air break switchgear which contains arc chutes. For these devices high temperature resistant materials with good electrical insulation must be used.
For many years asbestos materials were the industry standard for building arc chutes. Legislation has banned the use of products containing asbestos and TENMAT has thus developed a range of asbestos-free materials with outstanding arc resistant properties. SINDANYO, REFRAVER and ARCLEX materials have been specifically developed for these applications and exhibit excellent electrical properties in high power applications.
SINDANYO and REFRAVER are used in railway switchgear throughout Europe and the rest of the world as well as power generation switchgear.
In addition to the railway industry, ARCLEX with its extremely high performance electrical properties, is also widely specified in switchgear and circuit breakers in many power stations throughout the world. In the UK, switchgear manufacturers such as NEI Reyrolle, GEC, Whipp and Bourne, Ottermill, English Electric, Siemens and VA Tech have all been involved in air brake switchgear over the decades and the materials from TENMAT are now widely used where asbestos replacement refurbishment work is needed.
TENMAT materials are the preferred choice for all applications requiring effective circuit breaking technologies, such as trackside DC switchgear, metrosystems and aerospace electrical systems.
