From window plant WASTE to heating plant FUEL. Wood waste from a Danish window plant is used as industrial briquettes, also known as biomass fuel, at a local district heating plant. A leading Danish window factory has an annual production of 2,000 tonnes of industrial biomass briquettes based on sawdust, shavings and chips, mainly from pine.

From Briquetting press to container
- The briquettes are via cooling lines with 3-way switch track pushed into containers placed under a covered shelter.
- A switch at the end of the U-guide over the container sends a signal to the operator when it is time to switch over to the next container.
- Each container holds app. 10 tonnes of briquettes that are deliver-ed to a local district heating plant.
- This installation is running unmanned for 2-3 shift operation and needs just some minor daily checkups and lubrication by an operator.
Easy Transport and handling
- Briquettes are cheaper to transport than sawdust and shavings because of a high bulk density of 500 – 600 kg/m3, which is 5-6 times less than the raw material.
Heating Plant converted to Biomass
- The heating plant has a 2.5 MW grip-boiler that originally was designed to burn wet woodchips.
- After converting to use dry woodwaste briquettes with a moisture content of 10-12%, they have fully avoided the previous corrosion problems with the boiler and besides the ash content have been reduced to only 0.35%.
- An automatic crane fills the briquettes into a hopper, from where they are then feed into the boiler via a screw conveyor.
- 340 homes are connected to the heating plant via a highly insulated network of underground tubing grid.
