Mini-hydraulic energy is a type of renewable energy and thus comes under the regulations in force for these types of energy. It is the energy generated at mini-hydraulic stations where power comes from the potential or kinetic energy of water.
Types of mini hydraulic plants:
- Flowing water installations: These plants transform the power of moving water into electric power by means of a turbine.
- Water-flow regulation installations: At these plants water is fed from a reservoir that stores it from a natural source. The amount of water delivered to the turbine regulates power generation.
- Falling water installations: They use the potential energy of the water that falls naturally or artificially to turn a turbine. Montealto is promoting a 1,800 MW portfolio of projects based on the use of the energy in water to generate electricity at hydro stations operating on flowing water and dams.
