HyperWare simply and graphically provides the following features:
- Communications between a PC running HyperWare and the Logger
- Logger Programming via graphic drag and drop icons
- Real-time Trending of data as the Logger operates
- Graphic plotting of collected data
- Conversion of data to Spreadsheet formats
Serial Communications
Serial communication between the logger and the PC is supported in the HyperCommTM window in the HyperWare software. RS-232, telephone modem (cell and land), Ethernet, and even spread spectrum radio are supported. Serial communicatons between the logger and the PC include commands for...
- Collected data downloads
- Logger current status checks
- Reprogramming of the logger
- Real-time trending of data on the PC while the logger executes
- Remote control of the logger
To establish a connection between the PC and Data Logger, click on the serial link icon showing as a modem or a DB-25 connector.
Once the connection is established, merely dragging and dropping icons between the PC and the Logger results in transparent communications with 'behind the scenes' error checking. The visual communications implementation allows for quick and simple communications between the PC and a connected HyperLogger for Status , collected data downloads, programming, and remote control.
Example
To download data from the HyperLogger memory to a file on the PC, merely click on the Memory Icon overlaying the virtual HyperLogger, then drag it over the virtual PC icon and release it, the data transfer begins.
Robust data error checking and automatic retry during communication insure reliable data transfer, even with poor quality telephone links.
Drag and Drop Icon Based Programming
The Logic Beach data logging instruments are fully programmable for intelligent data logging strategies, alarming, conditional logging, inter-channel calculations, log to memory on change, statistical calculations and much more. In a never-ending effort by Logic Beach Engineers to keep our data loggers extremely easy to program, without compromising flexibility and capability, Logic Beach developed a revolutionary and unique graphical programming method for our instruments called HyperNet.
Within the HyperNet window (a standard environment within the HyperWare software) a 'NET' program is developed graphically on the PC using icons and interconnects, then transferred to the Data Logger memory. The Logger is then ready for stand-alone logging and can be disconnected and enabled for operation at which time it will start executing its new NET program.
Programming the HyperLogger or ModuLogger is a simple (but powerful) three step process.
Query the logger for its hardware configuration
First, via a serial communication connection, the logger is queried for its current hardware configuration by simply clicking on the NEW icon from within the HyperNet Development Screen. With this simple step, the Logger is automatically interrogated for installed Interface Modules and other accessories. Input and Output Icons will then appear on the screen ready for software configuration and interconnection.
Visually develop the logger 'NET' program
Additional icons are dragged and dropped onto the HyperNet Development Screen from the Icon toolbar. Start/Stop clock icons, Sampling Rate clock icons, math icons, alarm icons, comparator icons, pager alarm icons, various logging methodology icons, and many more are available to meet the logging needs for nearly any User desired data logging and alarming strategy.
The mouse is then used to add interconnection lines indicating data flow from icon to icon. Individual icons are configured by double-clicking on the icon and completing the pop-up dialog box. Dialog boxes provide entry fields for icon names, signal names, and icon unique parameters such as thermocouple type, signal range, and equations. Upon completion, save the NET program to disk and return to the Communication Screen.
Transfer the NET program to the Logger's memory
From within the Data Logger Communication Screen, drag the NET program icon from the virtual PC image to the virtual Data Logger. The NET program is automatically error checked and transferred to the HyperLogger's memory, ready for deployment and data collection.
Real Time Data Monitoring and Trending
HyperTrack (included within HyperWare) provides a real-time, scrolling display of HyperLogger collected data on a serially connected PC.
Additionally, with the introduction of the NEW Remote Control and Variable Constant icons, Users can now change operation of the program running in the logger via a serial link from their PC! From within the HyperTrack window, set-point parameters can be adjusted and outputs or logic within a program can be changed, all while the logger is executing its program.
HyperTrack provides immediate data display of User defined parameters pre-defined within the Datalogger NET program. HyperTrack is an extremely valuable tool for critical real-time process monitoring as well as serving as a quick method of checking on Logger I/O values and status.
Graphic Data Plotting
HyperWare includes a powerful graphic data plotting tool called HyperWare Plotter. After the data has been acquired in the field by the Logger and downloaded to the PC via a serial link, HyperWare Plotter is used to graphically plot up to 7 data channels versus time.
Data analysis is enhanced with mouse stroke Zooming and a full spectrum of display options include X and Y-axis scaling and formatting, grids, cursor data display, symbols, instant min/max/average and integral view analysis, and more.
Complying with the Windows standard, plots generated from within the plotter can be printed directly or saved as *.BMP files (Windows Bit Map file format). The *.BMP plot can be seamlessly integrated into other Windows applications including word processors and spreadsheets, allowing for powerful report generation without associated graphic format conversion hassles.
Collected Data File Conversion
HyperWare also includes additional post-processing options including collected data conversion to columnated ASCII (text) files and direct output to the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet format. Additionally, post-processing can be performed during the file conversion process using visually programmed icon networks similar to that employed in HyperNet.
Example
Two channels of field recorded temperature data contained within the original HyperLogger download file can be merged via a math icon and output to an Excel file format resulting in the original two channels and a third 'delta-T' channel.
