PVIQ Suite - Energy Virtual Irradiance Software
High-Accuracy Solar Irradiance Data for Asset Managers, Performance Engineers & Operators without On-Site Sensors. Benchmark, model, and diagnose solar PV site issues with high-accuracy irradiance data derived from satellite imagery. Locus Energy’s Virtual Irradiance product provides highly accurate, ground-level irradiance data anywhere across the Continental U.S., Hawaii, and Asia. Virtual Irradiance is an easily scalable solution for supporting PV performance evaluation for O&M and asset management.
Software Overview
Quality irradiance data is critical to understanding a solar PV site’s performance. On-site irradiance sensors can be expensive and challenging to maintain because of their sensitivity to soiling, snow cover, inter-row shading, positioning error, and calibration errors. Virtual Irradiance avoids these challenges by using a methodology based on satellite images and consistent calibration.
On a monthly basis, Virtual Irradiance generally has similar or even better accuracy than a typical commercial-grade irradiance sensor.
Features
The Virtual Irradiance (VI) service includes:
- Monthly Global Horizontal Irradiance (GHI) data with about 2.6% MBE
- 15-minute resolution of irradiance data about 30-minutes behind real-time
- 1 km² spatial resolution across the Continential U.S. and Hawaii, and 5 km² spatial resolution in Asia
- Irradiance data can be collected for any location in the continental U.S., Hawaii, and Asia, even if the site does not have Locus monitoring
- Available via fleet and site-level reports, as well as Locus Energy’s external API
Use Cases:
- Gather irradiance data for a location, without the need for an on-site irradiance sensor
- Run an independent check on irradiance data from on-site irradiance sensors
- Provide a fleet-wide consistent point of reference for irradiance data
- Complement on-site irradiance sensors with the capability to backfill any data collection gaps from snow, communication outages, etc.
