Objective:
The CMSWIND project consisted of the development of an advanced monitoring system for rotating components in wind turbines by means of the application of novel non-destructive testing techniques that were not previously being used in the wind sector. This new Condition Monitoring system improved component reliability by up to 50%, using a blend of vibration analysis (VA), motor current signature analysis (MCSA) and acoustic emission (AE) technologies to monitor operating conditions.
Year of implementation: 2012
Members: TWI, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Zerstorungsfrie Prüfung E.V., TUREB (Turkish Wind Energy Association), AEE, Inesco Ingenieros, SKM, Coservices International, Innora, AEND (Asociación Española de Ensayos NO Destructivos [Spanish Association for Non-Destructive Testing]), Fraunhofer, Brunel University of London and BIC.
Financing: 7th Framework Programme of the European Union
