Talk about the fact that solar sensors have a multitude of different uses, not only in the aerospace sector in which Solar MEMS specializes, but also in the field of defense, automotive or renewable energy. From our company we work on innovation in all these markets and in this article we break down some of the main industrial uses and applications.

One of the main uses of the solar sensors we work on is related to the aerospace sector, and these are some of the applications for which our microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology is used:

Renewable energies are increasingly important and solar sensors play a fundamental role when it comes to solar energy.

Among the main applications of the sensors are solar and light source tracking, solar radiation measurements, pointing systems, attitude control, drone attitude determination, and solar tracking platform controllers.

Being able to locate the sun`s energy and its radiation contributes to the environment by improving the efficiency of solar energy, one of the most powerful energy sources in the fight against climate change. Among other reasons, solar energy does not emit greenhouse gases, so it does not contribute to global warming, and is a great alternative to the use of polluting fuels such as coal or coal.

From Solar MEMS we have transferred all our know-how and we have extrapolated it to solar sensor technology with terrestrial applications and we have achieved this by maintaining  high precision and reliability, as well as reducing the costs of devices to motivate companies to invest in solar energy.

We currently use our technology in the automotive sector mainly to:

  • Determination of the solar vector together with the measurement of solar radiation for environmental comfort.
  • Provide intelligent thermal control in vehicles.

In defense, automotive technology and the aeronautical sector are used, so the applications of solar sensors in this sensor are similar.

They are primarily very useful for determining and tracking the sun as support systems for unmanned military vehicles such as ships and rescue boats, tanks, tractors and trucks and for autonomous missions.
