HPI received a call from Fiat-Chrysler regarding an FT-4 engine problem during a regional power alert. Fiat-Chrysler needed help to get their in-house powerplant online to support the local power grid in Michigan. Unfortunately when the request came through, one of their two FT-4`s would not start and they were looking at a stiff penalty under a local power agreement.

HPI quickly sent in a Field Support Team, headed by Martin Marsh, and diagnosed that the starting problem was due to the turbine fuel control valve. An emergency replacement unit was needed and when the original manufacturer was quoted they came back with a 50-week lead time... this is when HPI contacted Continental Controls Corporation (CCC) based in San Diego, California. They are an experienced manufacturer of high-quality fuel controls and helped pioneer the industry conversion to Smart (digital) Controlled Fuel Valves. Because CCC`s founder, Ross Fisher, believed in the premise of manufacturing all its parts in-house from machined components to the controller circuit boards, CCC was able to support a replacement request in a matter of days.

HPI took the lead with all the on-site system upgrade activity and when ready, CCC President Dave Fisher, was also on-site to help commission the unit. The FT-4 was put back online and the Customer was able to meet their commitments to the state of Michigan. The whole project was so successful that they have since upgraded their other FT-4 with CCC AGV50 Natural Gas Fuel Valve.

The prolonged heat wave this summer put the newly upgraded turbines to the test; with no issues encountered by Fiat-Chrysler as they flawlessly answered the call to help avoid Potential power outages within the region...
