Element Markets is helping Iowa Lakes Community College pay for its own wind turbine and teach its students about advanced clean energy. Under a long-term agreement, the college sells us all of the RECs generated by its 1.65 MW wind turbine. We worked with college officials to register the facility in the MRETS tracking system, which increased the value of their RECs and provided them with web-enabled electronic portfolio management tools for creating and tracking their RECs.
The 230-foot tall turbine overlooks the campus and supplies clean energy to the local community – a major milestone in Iowa Lakes’ commitment to sustainability. The turbine is used as a hands-on educational tool for the college’s state-of-the-art wind energy technology program, allowing students to experience the installation, maintenance and servicing of modern wind turbines. Plus, all REC revenues go to help finance the program – a program so outstanding that it was featured in a national television commercial campaign.
“The wind RECs that Element Markets monetizes for the College provide a valuable revenue stream that is being used to pay back our wind turbine installation. In the future, this revenue stream will go directly to the College’s wind energy academic program.”

Vice President of Administration, Iowa Lakes Community College
