Secretary of Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India, Atul Chaturvedi inaugurated a biogas plant with a capacity of 200 cubic metre, which will utilise about 5,000 kilograms cow dung per day, at Akauni village of trans-Ganga Chandauli district on Wednesday. Chairman of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) Meenesh Shahon was also present on the occasion. This biogas plant has been set up by Nand Sadan Gaushala, run by a progressive dairy owner Nagendra Singh and guided by NDDB under the aegis of SAAF Energy Private Limited.
With this, NDDB-guided household biogas supply project began. The project is located just five kilometres away from Varanasi Milk Union`s Dairy Plant. The objective of the project is to provide round-the-clock supply of biogas across 120 households in the village which can be used as cooking gas. Besides this, to encourage the use of slurry-based organic manure among the farmers, NDDB-trade-marked `Sudhan` organic manure will also be distributed among farmers.
