- Member: $1,695...Non-Member: $2,795
- Launch:
- 2015
Out of the US$27 billion and estimated US$31 billion spent on fab equipment in 2013 and 2014, respectively, secondary fab equipment represents approximately 5% of the total for each year.
Investment in “legacy” fabs are important in manufacturing many semiconductor products and such fabs remain a sizeable portion of the industries manufacturing base:
- 150 mm and 200 mm fab capacity represent ~40% of the total installed fab capacity
- Over 400 150 mm and 200 mm fabs are in production today, and only 10–20 are expected to close by 2018
- 200 mm fab capacity has been on the increase, led by foundry companies
- New applications related to mobility, sensing, and IoT are expected to provide opportunities for manufacturers with 200 mm fabs
METHODOLOGY
Companies were asked to provide information pertaining to the acquisition of used tools for 150 mm, 200 mm, and 300 mm manufacturing. Direct spending input was obtain from 28 IDMs and foundries, and estimates were made for another 12 companies based on known capex plans, quarterly financial statements and transcripts, and capacity investment trends tracked by the SEMI World Fab Forecast database.
