Solar Plus Storage

ARDA’s first target market is “next generation” solar energy. Solar energy is experiencing double digit growth with expectations for 40-49GW of new installations globally in 2014, up from 36GW in 2013. While solar technology is relatively mature, it is undergoing a transition to a new generation of designs that increasingly integrate energy storage to smooth generation and to better respond to demand. Recent legislation in California and Puerto Rico, high retail rates in Germany, an increasing focus on storage in China and Japan, and the decreasing cost of batteries, make storage more and more cost effective, and therefore more attractive as an integral part of solar installations. In fact according to IHS annual PV installations including storage are forecast to increase from under 200MW in 2013 to 6GW in 2017, with commercial solar installations representing the largest source of growth.

Fuel Cells for Stationary Power

Fuel cells promise high efficiency conversion of natural gas, biogas and other fuels into electricity and heat with minimal emissions. As such there is increasing interest in using the technology for distributed generation, particularly as initial capital costs continue to decline. According to RnRMarketResearch fuel cell revenue is expected to increase from from $390m in 2012 to $7.52 billion by 2020, a compound annual growth rate of 44.7%. ARDA’s Fuel Cells for Stationary Power Solution, based on proprietary ARDA-Grid technology, addresses this important emerging market. Fuel cells generate low voltage and are typically organized in stacks to boost output voltage to levels optimized for efficient conversion into AC power by larger centralized inverters. However larger stacks reduce performance and expected life and for certain very promising fuel cell technologies, including solid oxide based cells, this has delayed large scale commercialization.

DC Microgrids

ARDA’s DC Microgrids Solution, based on proprietary ARDA-grid technology, addresses the emerging market for DC micro grids that can incorporate a variety of energy sources, including solar and fuel cells, plus storage, plus energy loads, including DC lighting and charging. ARDA’s solution provides a fixed, high voltage DC backbone and an easy way to interconnect multiple sources and loads all operating at voltages optimized for safety and performance and all isolated from other system components. The DC Microgrids Solution utilizes a combination of proprietary ARDA components and available third party components.
