NEMA - Electrical Enclosures
Nema 1 enclosures are a general purpose enclosures that are typically manufactured to protect live parts, controls and terminations from contact with personnel and foreign objects in industrial applications. Nema 1 electrical enclosures can often house motor start & stop stations. Nema 1 style enclosures can offer a latching door, but do not require a sealing surface and therefore are not suitable for applications that require sealing out dust, oil, and water.
Nema - Electrical Enclosures
Nema 2 electrical enclosures offer the same level of protection as Nema 1, with the main difference being that Nema 2 enclosures are drip-tight. This means that a Nema 2 enclosure would be fitted with drip shields to protect electrical components from falling or splashing water that may be caused by conditions that have high condensation, such as cooling rooms or laundry rooms.
NEMA - Electrical Enclosures
NEMA 3 electrical enclosures are weather-resistant and include a degree of protection from windblown dust and ingress of water in the forms of rain, sleet and snow. A NEMA 3 rated electrical enclosure will also remain undamaged from the formation of ice on the enclosure. NEMA 3 enclosures are fabricated to house electrical controls, generator skids, or rotating equipment and protect these electrical components aboard shipdocks, on constructions sites, inside tunnels or in subway systems.

NEMA 4 enclosures are used for the most sensitive of electrical equipment because of their outstanding protection from the elements. NEMA 4 enclosures are often called rain tight enclosures due to their excellent weather resistance.

Its standard features include a pad-lockable stainless steel draw latch, stainless steel hinges and hardware, seamless pour in place silicone gasket, .187 heavy-duty mounting brackets, screened intake and exhaust louvers, integrated rain drip lip, double flanged door opening, welded .090 aluminum construction, and a 14.125H x 13.00W .125 aluminum interior mounted back panel. In order to prevent power loss to systems such as traffic lights, supplemental backup battery cabinets are installed. By adding an additional battery box either attached to the side of a traffic control box or as a sole and separate box to enclose additional batteries, when the power goes out the batteries take over for a short period of time maintaining the functionality of the lights. These stock battery box enclosures are also known as uninterruptable power supply (UPS) cabinets.
