Biogas is produced when organic matter undergoes anaerobic digestion. The organic material in absence of oxygen is converted to methane.  The biodegradable materials used in the production of Biogas include sewage sludge, animal excrement wastes, kitchen waste, agricultural wastes, biomass from biological treatment plant, etc. Biogas mainly contains methane, carbon dioxide and traces of hydrogen sulfide. The composition of the biogas can vary depending on the process and raw materials involved in biogas production. Biogas can be used to run heat engines, in the production of electrical and mechanical energy and biogas has the potential to replace natural gas. Biogas is an important and economic renewable energy source. The biogas can generate electricity of 1.8 kWh/cu.m.
