For this application, SCE chose the 3703 ChargeWorks, EVSE’s competitively priced Level 2 and Level 1, 7.2 KW, single or dual wall- or pole-mounted electric car charger. Like all EVSE LLC chargers, the 3703 can operate standalone or on a network, including Greenlots Open Charge Points Protocol (OCPP) to ensure universal access for all EV drivers – no member cards needed. The model 3703 is capable of being controlled remotely to apply, reduce or disconnect power to the electric vehicle, and measures both voltage and current being supplied to the EV.

The weather-proof unit is installed on the ceiling, safely keeping the EV battery charger cable and connector away from water, salt and automobiles. The retractable cable also helps pedestrians avoid tripping hazards and protects the unit from vandals. The 3722 Garage Overhead Charger can be configured to activate by local or remote control. When triggered, the charger’s automatic electronic cable management system will automatically lower the EV battery charger connector to an ADA-compliant height. The user then extends the cable and plugs it into their vehicle. When disconnected, the cable automatically retracts to the original overhead position in the charger station.

These hand-held, weatherproof units allow installers to check new electric vehicle chargers after installation, verifying a number of vital power and safety requirements as they simulate the connection an EV charger makes with an electric vehicle. Simply plug the charger’s J1772 connector into the Electrician’s receptacle, flip the switch button and the LEDs will indicate the actual amperage and voltage. The Electrician also lets you know if the pilot signal is operating properly. For testing the GFCI in the EV charger, just flip the switch to make sure this safety function is working properly.
