HyTEPS - EMC/EMI Filters
EMC/EMI filters are used to limit electromagnetic disturbance to values below those established in standards, or reduce this to levels specified in EMC plans. This means electromagnetic disturbance in each component (device, product) has to remain within certain limits. In addition, it is important to consider the effect of external disturbances on the installation and components used.
HyTEPS - Passive Harmonic Filter
The purpose of a Passive Harmonic Filter is almost identical to that of an Active Harmonic Filter. Both types of Harmonic Filter are used to reduce harmonic pollution and associated risks. A Passive Harmonic Filter does not have the extra functionality required to improve the cos phi or perform load balancing, which an Active Harmonic Filter can do. During the design phase, system resonance and its effect on the network impedance must be taken into account. Unlike the Passive Filter, which can be connected in parallel as well as in series, the Active Filter is almost always connected in parallel. An Active Harmonic Filter is, therefore, often dimensioned for the total harmonic pollution in the network or implemented for loads with a fluctuating harmonic spectrum.
HyTEPS - Active Harmonic Filter
An Active Harmonic Filter can be applied as a solution to several Power Quality problems. One of the most common applications is to reduce harmonic pollution within electrical installations. An Active Filter provides “clean power”. Reduction of harmonic currents and contamination significantly reduces the likelihood of faults and problems. An additional advantage is that an Active Harmonic Filter reduces the absorption of reactive power and achieves a longer service life. This results in cost savings.
