Innergex - Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
Batteries are objects familiar to all, and utility-scale batteries used in energy storage systems are not much different from batteries we use in our every day lives, like in our cellphones or computers. Battery Energy Storage Systems charge and discharge energy at different times of the day, providing a service. Utility-scale batteries are stationary and connected to the grid, usually near a power transmission infrastructure such as a substation, our coupled to a renewable energy generation site such as a solar photovoltaic facility, storing energy or injecting stored power back to the grid. Along with the batteries, which are typically integrated in container-like structures, a Battery Energy Storage System site typically also has an operations and maintenance building, underground and overhead electrical cables, safety equipment and inverters to convert the grid’s alternating current into the direct current used in the batteries and vice-versa.
Innergex - Solar Energy Plant
Today, with sustainable development and climate change becoming growing concerns, solar energy is increasingly being seen as a viable solution to our energy needs. The sun is a highly stable and predictable resource, which makes solar technology correspondingly reliable and easy to use. And because the sun’s energy is converted directly into electricity by a semiconductor, and requires no fuel or moving parts, it creates no pollution. As a result, solar energy is one of the cleanest renewable forms of energy around.
Innergex - Wind Energy Plant
Clean, renewable wind energy is an ideal alternative to fossil fuels. Wind turbines produce no atmospheric emissions, no harmful waste nor any other type of air or water pollution. And the noise produced by a wind turbine, as measured outdoors close to nearby homes, is no more than 40 dB, which is equivalent to the hum in a library.
Innergex - Hydro Power Plants
Hydro power plants produce minimal greenhouse gases and are a source of clean, non-polluting energy. The evaporation/condensation cycle also makes hydro energy completely renewable. Energy is produced from the natural water flow of rivers, assuring large scale and stable energy generation. Benefitting from a very long lifespan, hydroelectric facilities tend to become a driving force for local economy where they have been installed.
