Quality Assurance

Solar panel warranties and service life expectations have steadily risen from 5 years in the 1980s to the current 25-year standard. Industry experience has taught us that while this level of quality and durability is attainable it is not a given; this level of performance can only be achieved by applying appropriate due diligence through rigorous quality assurance practices. By combining best practices from the European and North American solar industries along with our team’s years of evaluating panel     aging behavior, PVEL developed three project level quality assurance programs to mitigate your technology risk; Lot Acceptance Testing, Latent Defect Screening, and Ongoing Degradation Testing.

Supplier Qualification

PVEL will work directly with you to develop a supplier qualification program that will minimize your investment risk. Most solar panel underperformance issues are kept quiet; understandably, since no manufacturer, developer, or investor wants to concede any deviations from high quality. Even some of the most respected suppliers have recently experienced major product recalls caused by rapid performance degradation, arcing in the junction box, cell cracks, anti-reflective glass coating delamination, and junction box adhesive failures.

Reference Cells

Accurate performance analysis requires a precise measurement of energy input versus module energy output. Industry-wide, production guarantees protect system owners against reduced system performance. These guarantees require accurate data and performance analysis in order to be properly implemented and understood. Though many solar installations today ineffectively utilize pyranometers to measure incident solar energy, calibrated solar reference cells are more finely tuned to match a module’s measurements and receptivity, resulting in more accurate data and greater confidence in production guarantees for all the stakeholders involved.

Panel performance, long-term reliability and quality, degradation rates, and competitor claims contribute to an the decision to go with your product or not. Independent, third-party reports—performed and reviewed by highly experienced solar engineers—greatly increases product bankability and eases market commercialization.
