Our fuel feed system pushes the fuel slowly across the combustion chamber minimizing the amount of turbulence on the grate while maximizing the length of time the fuel is exposed to combustion air. By strictly regulating the air flow through the grate and fuel, the BCS design minimizes the amount of fuel lifted off the bed. Since an excess of this air has a cooling effect on the firebox, this strict regulation minimizes the cooling impact of this air and maximizes temperature at the grate where gasification occurs, enabling the fuel to burn more completely.

Messersmith combustion systems are designed to efficiently burn a variety of wood based fuels with moisture content up to 50%. The Messersmith combustion chamber contains a set of sloping grates, with no moving parts to jam or wear out. Fuel delivered from the Stoker Augers moves down the sloping grate system as it burns. Underfire combustion air is delivered to the fuel through small holes in the grates. Overfire combustion air is delivered above the fuel through nozzles built into the refractory lined sides of the combustor.

The automated outdoor wood boiler system is a partnership between Messersmith Manufacturing who supplies the fuel handling system with integrated controls and Crown Royal who supplies the hydronic wood chip boiler. The package is an automated system with an enclosed fuel storage bin incorporating Messersmith’s travel auger system along with a series of conveyors to transport the fuel into the wood boiler system where it is burned. The system is capable of burning wood chips, sawdust, wood pellets or pelletized coal.
