Woodmill Residue Handling
Outotec and Skellefteå Kraft AB agreed to create a joint company in 2009 – GreenExergy AB. The joint venture focuses on developing, marketing and delivering technologies to bio-energy power plants for the production of bio-energy from forestry and sawmill residues. Skellefteå Kraft is one of the largest energy producers in Sweden and owns a number of combined heat and power plants based on biofuel. The company has developed a process technology for producing bioenergy in the form of electricity, heat and pellets from forestry and sawmill residues, and two of its plants are already using this unique technology. The process is based on an innovative raw material drying technology, which considerably improves the energy efficiency of the production, in contrast to other existing alternative technologies.
Production Of Fine Coke (Char)
The Circochar process, a spin-off of the Circofer technology, produces fine coke and a valuable fuel gas from fine-grained volatile coals. This fine coke production, also known as ‘charring’, is based on Outotec’s circulating fluidized bed (CFB) technology, which has been applied in over 150 commercial plants worldwide ranging from the calcinations of aluminum hydroxide and coal combustion, to the reduction of iron ore fines. Apart from fine coke, a fuel gas is created, whose gas quality can be adjusted to meet the requirements for power generation by adding steam or oxygen to the process.
