NGK - Iridium Spark Plugs
NGK iridium spark plugs currently represent the highest-quality technological solution. They feature an iridium-alloy on the middle electrode welded on in a special process using laser. One of the world’s hardest metals, the precious metal iridium starts melting at a temperature of 2450°C and is therefore very resistant to spark erosion. By using it, the service life is doubled on average in comparison to standard nickel spark plugs. As one of the world’s leading spark plug manufacturers, NGK SPARK PLUG has been igniting sparks since the 1930s. But sparks don’t just simply ignite. It takes a high amount of precision to create spark plugs that perform their task well and are extremely resistant in doing so.
Ignition Parts - Glow Plugs
NGK - Metal Rod Glow Plugs
Metal rod glow plugs are equipped with a heating coil in a glow rod made of heat-resistant metal. A specific material – magnesium oxide – in the interior of this glow rod, protects the heating coil from vibrations and shocks. As magnesium oxide is also an outstanding thermal conductor, the heat that is produced can quickly be dissipated outward. Metal rod glow plugs can be allocated into three main groups: standard rod glow plugs, self-regulating rod glow plugs, and AQGS rod glow plugs.
Ignition Parts - Ignition Leads & Caps
NGK - Copper Core Ignition Leads with Interference Suppression
Copper core ignition cables with interference suppression are comprised of a copper core surrounded by a silicone layer that serves as an electrical insulator. Copper is an excellent conductor, but is also very sensitive to corrosion. Therefore, the copper core of such ignition cables is tin-plated. The outer insulation, made of silicone rubber, can withstand temperatures up to 220°C and is resistant to gas and oil.
Ignition Parts - Ignition Coils
NGK - Distributor Ignition Coils
With a distributor ignition coil, the high-voltage pulse generated by the ignition coil passes through an ignition cable to a mechanical ignition distributor. This, in turn, distributes the high-voltage pulse to the corresponding ignition cable, which provides voltage to the cylinder. This ignition coil type can be found in older vehicles; it was in use well into the 1990s.
