The biogas production technology is RENEW ENERGY’s basic model manifested in RENEW ENERGY’s separation plants and biorefineries in combination with ethanol plants. Bacteria convert biomass into valuable fertilizers and environmentally friendly biogas. Examples of biomass are livestock manures and organic residuals such as waste from food industries. Fertilizers are sent to farmers who spread them on their land. The biogas can be delivered to a combined heat and power plant and used in gas engines for the production of electrical power and heat for the existing power grid and district heating network.

RENEW ENERGY’s biorefinery ensures stability to traditional ethanol plants from the threats of large fluctuations in energy expenses. A traditional ethanol plant puts strain on the local environment and gross energy balance. Green energy is produced for the transport sector, however, large amounts of fossil fuel are used for the production. The environmental strain on the environment will be greatly reduced if the ethanol plant is combined with RENEW ENERGY’s biogas/separation plant: the water is reused, the plant produces energy for its own consumption, and the plant recovers the nutrients which are reused as fertilizers in the agricultural sector. RENEW ENERGY’s biorefinery utilizes the residual products from the distillation as “feedstock” in the biogas plant – it produces sufficient biogas for its own consumption of power, steam and heat.
