Ever since the 1980s, flue-gas desulphurization (FGD, or its German equivalent REA) plants have been filtering sulphur dioxide (SO₂) out of the flue gas from lignite-fired power stations. The scrubbing method, in which the SO₂ is washed out using limestone slurry, has long since proved its worth. Today, more than 95% of the desulphurization plants in power stations and industrial facilities worldwide are being reliably and successfully operated on the basis of this technology.

Master+ is an innovative solution to make profitable use of the batteries of uninterruptible power systems (UPS) in facilities with critical infrastructure, like hospitals or data centers. It allows cost optimization of the back-up batteries since idle energy storage capacities are commercialized in the energy markets, thus minimizing capital and operating costs. System reliability increases due to the use of real-time battery monitoring systems which allows predictive maintenance capabilities. Master+ has been developed by RWE and Riello Power Systems, a leading manufacturer of uninterruptible power supply systems.
