Solar mini-grids are a promising solution for many parts of Africa, and project developers worldwide are well underway in expanding their investments in this sector.  However, these types of facilities are expensive to implement and generally not economically unfeasible to serve the “last mile” in most rural areas. Solar lanterns and home systems have tremendous potential to serve the “last mile”, but they have limited capabilities to create new wealth or economic opportunities in rural areas.
