Solarlite - Parabolic Trough Collector

The Solarlite 5770 is the second generation of highly efficient parabolic trough collectors. The product was developed for operating up to 500°C. The collector, with an aperture of 4.6 m, consists of precisely shaped parabolic troughs made from glass fibre composite material, upon which a thin-film glass mirror is glued. This reflects more than 95% of the sun`s radiation on to a receiver pipe positioned at the focal line. Water is pumped through the pipe, absorbing the reflected heat and vaporising. A turbine generator produces electricity. The surplus heat can be used for further heat applications.

Power Plant

Solar thermal energy - fully developed and efficient. Solar thermal power plants play an increasing role in the energy supplies of the future.Research and develeopment efforts were already taking place in the USA in the 1980s, but were stopped and not started again until recent years. Solar thermal power plants achieve high efficiency and are a climate and resource-friendly form of energy production. In sun-rich regions they can be built and operated profitably for investors. In a conventional power plant, steam is produced through the burning of substances such as coal or oil. Under high pressure, the steam propels a turbine, which is connected to an electricity generator. The steam is condensed into water and fed back to the steam generator.

Solar Generated Process Steam for Eor

How an oil company is increasing oil production and saving energy costs at the same time - An international oil production company faces the peak of production rate in one oil field in the Arabian Peninsula soon. In order to keep up the oil production rates the company decides to invest in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) technology by injecting steam and extend the field?s lifetime. Along with thermal EOR goes a significantly increased energy demand and hence further environmental impacts. Since steam flooding EOR nearly doubles the oil production costs, the company is looking to reduce the operation expenditures significantly. [...]

District Heating / Cooling

Concentrated solar thermal power (CSP) is already being used in local heating plants in Denmark. Due to the higher temperatures and the higher efficiency, parabolic troughs are ideally suited to supply therml energy in storage systems. In the near future, parabolic troughs will also be found more frequently in this application in Europe too. Parabolic troughs are particularly suitable in warmer areas to be implemented in so-called district cooling systems. The high efficiency makes this approach economical and is particularly recommended for larger units.
