Vahterus - Plate & Shell Heat Exchanger
Vahterus’ unique Plate & Shell Heat Exchanger (PSHE) is at the forefront of heat-exchanger technology. The core is a fully welded plate pack enclosed in a strong shell structure, which eliminates the need for gaskets. Due to its advanced construction, Vahterus PSHE combines the best features of Plate & Frame and Shell & Tube heat exchangers. Our PSHE has numerous advantages over traditional heat exchangers. It is compact and low weight, and since it has no gaskets, it can withstand higher pressure and temperatures than Plate & Frame heat exchangers. The structural properties of Vahterus PSHE also make it durable, easy to maintain and energy efficient.
Vahterus - Fully Welded Plate Heat Exchanger
Vahterus PSHE is a fully welded plate heat exchanger. This means that the heat-transfer plates are welded together with no need for an external gasket. Gasketed plate heat exchangers are suitable for many applications, but are limited in terms of temperature and pressure, coupled with the fact that there is always a risk of gasket failures and/or permeation. The same risks apply for semi-welded plate heat exchangers. With Vahterus PSHE, the risk of gasket failure is eliminated. The plate pack within the shell of Vahterus PSHE is composed of a series of circular plates welded together around the perimeter and the port holes.
Vahterus - PSHE Construction Technology
The principle of a heat exchanger is to transfer heat from the primary to the secondary side through a heat-transfer plate that separates the flows. Vahterus heat exchangers are used for heating, cooling, condensing, evaporating and the recovery of process heat. They are composed of a fully welded pack of circular heat-transfer plates installed in a cylindrical steel shell – hence the term Plate & Shell. The nature of the construction provides a short and efficient flow path for the product whilst maintaining low pressure drop. This heat exchanger type is thus ideal for applications with viscous fluids. There are no gaskets used in the construction and all connections are welded.
