Green Hydrogen from Biogas

Direct steam reforming of biogas is the a cost effective option to green hydrogen today. It’s obvious, that the gas-gas conversion path is more efficient than producing electricity and then hydrogen. WS Reformer has adapted the FLOX reformer modular products to direct biogas conversion by adjusting the internal process as well as using special catalysts. The systems have a high grade of modularity. Increasing hydrogen demand can be met by simply adding new modules, which comprise all relevant process steps, like desulfurization, steam generation, reforming and CO-Shift. The product is addressed to engineering companies, engaged in the hydrogen fueling sector as well as project developers, who need to guarantee 24/7 operation and hydrogen supply.

Hydrogen and liquid Carbon-based Hydrogen Carriers. Methanol, DME and Bio-Ethanol - Synthesis and Reforming. Liquid, fossil carbon-based energy carriers, like gasoline, Diesel and Kerosene dominate mobility. The simple reason for this is their high volumetric energy density and easy handling. In order to meet the CO2 emission targets alcohols or any other liquid energy carriers, based on biomass need to substitute those from fossil origin. Biogas is a source for Green DME or Biomethanol. The synthesis process needs a well-defined syngas as an intermediate step. Our FLOX reformer modular products could serve as a syngas-generator for plant capacities on a farm level. Downstream in the energy chain, the extraction of hydrogen from these biobased liquid energy carriers at the point of use is necessary. All our products can do this job: the FLOX reformer compact is perfect for methanol-fueled off-grid fuel cell power generators, often envisaged as a substitute for small and inefficient Diesel gen-sets. For larger capacities in ship or train applications or on-site fueling stations, one would choose the FLOX reformer modular. Particularly if one decides to operate on alcohol/water mixtures, the system will become astonishingly simple.

Extracting Hydrogen from Ammonia

Ammonia is a common commodity in the fertilizer and chemical industry. In the hydrogen sector, it is considered a promising candidate for hydrogen transport in a carbon-free world. Synthesis from CO2-free feedstocks like N2 from air and green hydrogen is a viable option. The use as fuel for ships, large vehicles but also as hydrogen carrier for remote power generation and industrial hydrogen is straightforward. In this context, the need for efficient extraction (cracker) technology is obvious – we offer. The FLOX A-cracker is a gas-heated ammonia cracker, which is able to use a part of the produced hydrogen in order to meet the cracking energy.
