Company Profile

MF 1Energiebau.The solar power experts. The Company2 3Editorial When Energiebau was established in 1983, my fellow cam- paigners and I led the visionary movement known as the “energy revolution”. Then, as today, this expression signified for us the fastest possible change to decentralized energy supplies, 100 % from renewable resources. Since 2011, the expression has been officially adopted by the German government and is currently the topic of intense political debate. The production of electricity from sunlight is today one of the most important drivers in the energy revolution, and will play an increas-ingly significant role in future energy supplies. A cost-effective product with widespread application has evolved from an earlier, expensive technology. As one of the leading suppliers of photovol-taic systems, Energiebau has actively contributed to this develop-ment over a period of three decades. We are committed to ensuring that the photovoltaic success story continues – partly through our participation on the board of the German Solar Industry Association and other bodies. Day in, day out, we remain conscious of the fact that our actions have consequences for our company, its employees and customers, and for the environment and society as a whole. This awareness shapes every single decision we make. For us, partnership is the key to successful cooperation between all parties – customers, suppliers and employees. In our view, progress means continually developing the company as a centre for learning in order to create new solutions for future challenges. These three pillars of our corporate culture, combined with almost 30 years of experience, form the basis for our success. Whether as an internationally recognised specialist supplier of solar systems or as a developer of turnkey solar power projects, we are known for our dedication to quality, extreme flexibility and dedicated personal commitment to our customers.Energiebau evolved from the simple desire to make the world a better place – both now and in the future. Today, this goal is more important than ever. As an experienced commercial enterprise, we symbolise reliability and trust in a solar industry that is still young and dynamic. The three pillars of our corporate culture are and always will be: responsibility – partnership – progress.Within the context of sustainability. Our philosophy.6 78 9The 1982 Cologne exhibition “Es geht auch anders” (“There are other ways“) laid the foundation for six environmentally aware en-gineers to set up a company in 1983: Energieladen Köln. At a time when awareness of renewable energy sources was only in its infancy, this dynamic firm of consultants and engineers was already focusing on solar technology, thermal insulation, cost- effective heating systems and rainwater usage. When the sky is the limit, it is important to remain grounded. The history of Energiebau.Energiebau’s roots can be traced back to the environmental movement of the 80s. Back then, environmental pioneers were not part of the mainstream. From these humble beginnings, a groundbreaking industry emerged that has developed nu merous concepts for globally sustainable energy.Ever since then, Energiebau has been proving that there really are other options. In the 90s, the company began to concentrate increasingly on the supply of solar energy and progressively developed its systems expertise in this field. This move into a new energy age was confirmed by politicians with the introduction of the German Renewable Energy Sources Act in 2000.Our company is a pioneer in its field, operating in an industry where both economic and environmental sustainability have a crucial influence on the direction of future developments. This forward-looking yet conservative approach continues to shape the company to this day.8 910 11From concept to business model. The company today. With almost three decades of experience, Energiebau is now a professional hub for all things solar. All over the world, our off-grid specialists provide competent support from design and project management through to commissioning of stand-alone systems. The ability to respond quickly and with flexibility to customer requests is another one of our strengths, as is the realisation of sophisticated off-grid systems using the very latest technology.Africa, rich in sunshine. We bring energy to your development. Many parts of Africa have no regulated access to electricity. At the same time, the requirement for energy in Africa’s cities is increas-ing due to the growth in population. Today, a large proportion of the electricity used in Africa is supplied by diesel generators. Meanwhile, solar energy on this continent rich in sunshine has become cheaper than that produced from diesel. In future, photo-voltaic installations will be able to provide a secure source of energy, free from emissions, for the whole of Africa. Since the mid- 1990s, Energiebau has been contributing to the rural electri fi ca-tion of Africa and in doing so, has been improving the quality of life considerably for the people affected. In the interests of sus-tain-able development, local partners are involved in the project process. The training of local specialists makes it possible to com-mission and monitor solar systems on-site.The extensive offering is completed by the provision of after-sales services to all customers up to Third Level Support. The overriding goal for all activities and services is the satisfaction of our customers, expressed through a long-term business relationship.Applications: • Solar Home Systems (SHS)• Telecommunications equipment• Traffic control technology• Radio and environmental monitoring stations• Street lighting• Remote mountain refuges, holiday and weekend homes• Boats or caravans• Complex hybrid and backup systems• Agricultural equipment and workshops• Village energy supplies and rural electrification• Water supplies and pumping stations18 1920 21Energiebau fulfils its social responsibility and has received awards commending the spirit that runs through the whole organisation.Driven by solar power. We take responsibility.Because tomorrow starts today.Energy concepts for the future. The SOLidarity Foundation. Since 2008, our non-profit-making foundation, SOLidarity, has been supporting solar projects in Africa in the areas of health care, schools and vocational training. By training local specialists, we ensure that the solar power systems are maintained and always function reliably.Operation Light Box is an example of such a project. The aim of this project is to equip all village clinics in Ghana with robust solar power systems. Our work is currently focused on projects in both Ghana and Tanzania. For many decades, it has been a question of integrating renew-able energy as well as possible into the existing electricity grid. As a result of the energy revolution taking place, it is now up to the power supply companies to meet the requirements of renewables and to bring energy producers together in an intelligent way.The energy revolution started with the need to conserve energy. Future energy requirements should be met from renewable resources. The same has been seen in the transport sector which has been revolutionised by electromobility. If the electric vehicles are powered using electricity generated from solar energy, we can speak of solar mobility. The future lies in the progress to be seen in personal and public transport. Energiebau is already selling charging stations and solar carports.www.solidarity-stiftung.deTomorrow’s electricity networks will be decentralised.Large power stations require high-voltage power lines in order to transport the energy produced to the consumers. These large power lines are meeting with increasing resistance from the population. With photovoltaic systems, there is no such problem. They produce the electricity right there, where it is to be used.Tomorrow’s networks will be smart. Modern storage media will in future be able to store electricity produced from renewable resources and in doing so, guarantee the greatest possible independence for the individual. For the large scale power producers, the intelligent management of de-centralised renewable energy producers is critical. Virtual power plants will in future determine supply and demand. Tomorrow’s networks will be smart as they will be able to manage a combi-nation of weather conditions, energy prices and the supply and demand for electricity. These examples show that the challenges often quoted in the context of switching our energy supplies to renewable resources can all be overcome. We at Energiebau have been developing these solutions for almost 30 years. The energy revolution has only just started. And we are part of it.20 21Awards.These prizes are important to us.Roy Family Award 2007For solar hybrid projects (in cooperation with InWent).
