Decentralised and scalable biomethane projects are critical to achieving European decarbonisation goals. While European biomethane production has reached new highs in recent years, the industry is still in its infancy in terms of the RePowerEU target of 35 bcm by 2030. The EU’s agri-food waste alone can produce 32 bcm, accounting for 90 per cent of the RePowerEU goal. The challenge to achieving this potential is to rapidly implement efficient, sustainable and decentralised solutions to unlock the value of feedstock located in remote and rural areas.
