The direct start system is perhaps the simplest and most traditional and consists of connecting the engine directly to the mains supply, thus performing a full-voltage start. It is often abbreviated to DOL (Direct On Line). Direct starting is the simplest and most economical way to start electric pumps or motors and is the one traditionally used most. They are suitable for starting small submersible pumps or submersible pumps or for pressure boosting systems with surface pumps.
