Gujarat government is aiming to increase power generation to 25,979 MW by year 2015 from the present 17,169 MW. The Venue - Ahmedabad is voted as 3rd fastest growing city of the world by Forbes.CAPITALISE ON GUJARAT’S GREEN ENERGY MOVEMENTINDIAN ENERGY SCENARIOIn last six decades, India has witnessed tremendous progress in the field of energy generation, transmission, distribution, regulation and conservation. During the 11th Five Year Plan, nearly 55,000 MW of new generation capacity was created, yet there continued to be an overall energy deficit of 8.7% and peak shortage of 9%.Despite significant growth in the generation over the years, Indian power sector is facing challenges and is suffering from shortages and supply constraints. It is expected that a judicious mix of centralized fossil fuel power plants and decentralized renewable energy based power plants will lead to an environment friendly augmentation of the power sector in India. Renewable Energy in Gujarat by 2020 aims at increase of RE power to the national grid, from 5% in 2009-10 to 15% of the energy mix by 2020 (National Action Plan on Climate Change). Expected capacity addition in RE sector by 2017 will be 4,297 MW with highest contribution from wind – 50% and solar - 44%. Total installed capacity from RE sources by 2017 will be 7,863 MW. Wind Power: The State of Gujarat with its longest coastline in the country and inland windy sites has a potential of over 10,000 MW of wind power. Solar Power: Gujarat has one of the highest solar generation potential in India. The areas with the highest solar potential is the district of Kutch, Jamnagar, Junaghad, Navsari, and Patan.Bioenergy: The total biomass potential for Gujarat is about 1,800 MW from crop residue and about 140 MW from forest residue. Districts with the highest biomass potential are Rajkot, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Surendranagar, Amreli in crop residue & Junaghad, the dangs, Sabarkantha, Valsad, Dahod & Banaskantha in forest residue.Hybrid Energy: Districts with the highest hybrid potential for wind solar hybrid installation is Rajkot, Kutch, Jamnagar, Surendranagar, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Sabarkantha, Banaskantha, Junaghad.Geothermal Energy: Geothermal power pilot projects are being planned in the State. Gujarat geothermal potential is concentrated in Khambhat.Tidal Energy: Gulf of Khambhat and Gulf of Kutch are identified as potential sites for setting up tidal wave based power project in the State.Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has been playing a pioneering role in developing the Indian energy industry with a move to integrate the industry since 2004.
