Many ERF/WtE plants are operated in manual mode and the efficiency of the individual operator teams shows very differ-ent combustion efficiency. • Fast reactions, without overreacting, to cope with the fluctuations in waste composition and to avoid capacity loss • Waiting time after an adjustment to allow the process to react • Previous control actions checks when evaluating the next adjustment • Operator interference in combustion control is limited The FuzEvent® Control System and the implemented strategy handle the parameters and interventions recommended in the EU Reference Document on the Best Available Techniques (BAT) for Waste Incineration (August 2006). FuzEvent® ensures a consistent control strategy 24 hours a day while operating the plant all the time like the most experienced operator. The control rules are easy to modify and improve, and the plant operators and specialists can easily understand and participate in defining new ideas to the control strategy. FuzEvent® Integration FuzEvent® is installed on a separate PC with a standard link to the existing DCS system. The FuzEvent® receives data (i.e. furnace temperature, O2 levels, steam flow etc.) from the process, and returns control signals to the DCS system (i.e. waste feeder speed, primary air, secondary air etc.) as indicated in figure 1. The basic control functions in the existing DCS system remain un-changed. Everything is included in the FuzEvent package: • The FuzEvent® software and licence, for plant control optimization • The Dublix Waste-to-Energy Control Algorithms (DWCA) • PC with a Microsoft Office licence, for reporting • iFIX licence, for user-friendly operator interface screens • Commissioning • Performance test Fast Implementation A FuzEvent® system is implemented within max. 3 months. The FuzEvent® Control Strategy is based on Dublix Engineering expertise and on design meetings with the plant management and operators. The FuzEvent® System contains a standard control loops library which will be adjusted in order to correspond to the specific needs of the plant. Performance monitoring Management and operators can easily follow the per-formance of the plant, simple KPIs seen in figure 3 show the efficiency and stability of the combustion.
