Regional governments are increasingly showing their commitment to solar power through the introduction of new regulatory frameworks, by opening new tenders and encouraging investment in infrastructure to expand their county’s solar capacity. Most noticeably, seven countries are taking the lead, opening new opportunities for the international CSP and PV community. These include:Morocco has a target of 2GW of solar energy by 2020. Morocco leads the MENA CSP market with 20MW in operation, 160MW under construction and 350MW recently awarded to ACWA Power. On the PV front, the national utility ONEE will open bids to develop project on the electricity system´s edges. This market is BIG business for those involved in Solar Energy.Egypt is the new land of opportunity for PV thanks to the FiT programme announced in late 2014. Their solar target is for 2GW, which they plan to achieve with new regulatory frameworks put in place.Jordan has over 800 million dollars granted from international finance bodies to develop PV in the country. This year 170MW of PV from Round 1 will come into operation paving the way for the following rounds that will soon come.UAE are leaders in CSP operation in MENA with the 100 MW Shams I plant performing above expectations. The UAE is also pushing forward over 1GW of PV with bids from DEWA and Masdar showing that there is much business to be had here.Kuwait, traditionally a key oil player, is now committed to solar power with 50 MW of parabolic troughs under development and the 60 MW Al Abdaliyah ISCC plant. The Kuwait Oil Company is also looking to develop off-grid PV plants for its operations – another string to its bow.Oman is a pioneer in solar EOR. Petroleum Development Oman has a 7MW plant operated by GlassPoint which recently received 53 million dollars from the State General Reserve Fund, Shell and other venture firms for solar EOR developmentSaudi Arabia, after several internal changes in their renewable programme, remains the most promising market for solar in the MENA region. First steps will be taken with the development of the 50 MW Duba 1 ISCC plant and the market awaits for further announcements.MENASOL helps you unlock the solar potential in MENA Now in its 7th edition, MENASOL 2015 will support you to navigate solar power opportunities in MENA. By bringing together more than 500 leading solar executives this May MENASOL will deliver you with: Decision makers on stage: Meet with top government officials from Jordan, Egypt, Morocco and the UAE that will give you the keys to win the upcoming tenders so you can take part in the next solar projects in MENA Tailored CSP and PV programmes: From PV cost reduction to reach <6 cents/kWh rates to CSP hybridisation with Combined Cycle, EOR and desalination – learn about your technology’s most pressing challenges in MENA hearing from ACWA Power, Masdar, GlassPoint Joint Exhibition Zone: Sold-out in 2014, MENASOL is unique on its recruitment of top level exhibitors that bring you the latest in PV and CSP technologies – network with international and local investors, developers and EPCs present in the room such as KfW, Sener, FirstSolar and Martifer Solar Celebrate the industry: Dine with top solar executives at the MENASOL Awards Ceremony and recognise the recent achievements in solar development in the region Solar Power in Action: Get the chance to see solar in action Come along to the exclusive tour of the 100MW Shams 1 CSP plant in Abu Dhabi and network with key developers and government officials in attendance The road to becoming a mature market lies ahead With very positive steps forward in 2014, the MENA region is on its way to becoming a mature solar market. Before this can happen, projects need to reach financial close to kick start construction. This is where the solar community in MENA needs to show financers the benefits and economics of solar power so that they feel confident to invest in CSP and PV technologies. The main technology challenge for solar in the MENA countries is the harsh desert conditions found throughout. MENA countries have one of the best solar radiations in the world, yet the dust of the desert reduces the actual radiation that reaches the mirrors and panels. PV and CSP experts are yet to find the solutions for sand storms and the humidity that makes the granules stick in the mirrors or panels – but they are close. Once realised, the community can improve the performance of current plants and future projects. Moreover, off-grid applications such as Enhanced Oil Recovery and Desalination are still to unlock their true potential. Solar companies need to focus on providing solutions that can increase profits for leading oil and water companies throughout the region. From the 18 countries that are included in the MENA region, seven are already pursuing solar power. The other markets remaining are challenged with severe political unrest, meaning that solar development will have to wait for now. Once stability becomes a reality and economic development starts to flourish, solar companies will count on the track record to take on the energy needs that these countries will present. Solar power is now a certainty in the MENA region. 13-14 MAYHyatt Regency Hotel, Dubai, U.A.E.MENASOL 2015MENASOL 2015 SPEAKERSPlenary SpeakersMohammad Hamed Minister, Minister of Energy & Mineral Resources - JordanWijdan AlRabadi Commissioner, Electricty Regulatory Commission (ERC) - JordanRaed Sherif Senior Consultant, Kuwait Oil CompanyPedro Banda R&D Manager - Sr. Specialist, DEWATaoufik Laabi Director of Strategy and Planning, Office National de l´ElectricitéTaher Diab Director - Strategy & Planning, Dubai Supreme Council of EnergyNayef Al-Haddad Engineering Specialist, Partnerships Technical BureauBrowning Rockwell Executive Director, Saudi Arabia Solar Industries Association (SASIA)Francisco Luque Senior Renewable Energy Expert, MasdarMichelle Davies Head of Clean Energy and Sustainability Group, EvershedsUlrich Schoppmeyer Director - Power, Renewables & Water, KfW - IPEX BankPV Speakers:Stefan Degener Senior Director O&M - EMEA, First SolarMohammed Ghalayini General Manager, Jordan Adenium Solar JordanJorge Barredo CEO, Gestamp SolarTristán Higuero Country Manager, FRVEduardo Pereira Middle East Business Development, Martifer SolarSaleh Al-Salem Renewable Energy Director, AlGihaz HoldingWael El Nashar Chairman, Onera SystemsMohamed Alammawi VP Sales MENA CIGSfab, Manz AGCSP Speakers:Paddy Padmanathan President & CEO, ACWA PowerThomas Altmann VP of Technology, ACWA PowerMohammad Abutayeh Professor, Khalifa UniversityKevin Smith CEO, SolarReserveElvira García Corporate Procurement & Subcontracting Department Manager, SenerAlexandre Allegue General Manager, Sun&LifeAbdulaziz Alobaidli Process Performance Engineer, Shams PowerLuis Crespo President, ESTELAWang Zhen Manager Overseas Business Development, RayspowerMarwan Chaar Senior Manager BD, GlassPointJuha Ven CEO, Huiyin GroupJeroen van Schijndel Chief Sales & Marketing Officer, RioGlass SolarFor the latest speaker line-up visit: www.csptoday.com/menasol/speakersThe Award winning Solar Conference of the Year - MENASOL 2015 - brings together leaders from across the industry including government officials, off-takers, CSP and PV developers and many more expertsBook your meeting with the speakersNetworking Online before the conferenceGet ahead of your competition – secure your place at MENASOL 2015, email today: mercedes@csptoday.comThe online networking platform is an exclusive feature of MENASOL 2015.
