The natural conditions for bioenergy are very favourable in all the Scandinavian and Baltic countries, with good farmland and productive forest. In the Baltic states, the dependence on imported fossil fuels is an economical and political challenge.at the same time indigenous biomass resources are abundant. Therefore, bioenergy offers an opportunity to decrease import dependency, reduce costs, and create business development and jobs in domestic economies. The technical solutions are availableat the Nordic Baltic Bioenergy Conference we will share experiences and present state-of-the-art technologies.Gustav MelinCEO Svebio, SwedenDidzis PalejsPresident LatBio, LatviaJean-Marc JossartEuropean Biomass association – aEBiOM,BelgiumMagnus EdinSunPine, SwedenOlav Mosvold Larsenavinor aS, NorwayLukas Fiodorovas Enerstena Ltd., LithuaniaJohannes LehkenNeste Oil Oyj, FinlandAnders GemmelPöyry London, United KingdomPROgRaMME HigHLigHTSThe opening day focuses on market development and the current political framework, in the EU and in the Nordic and Baltic countries. How can EU targets for 2020 be reached, and what incen-tives are available? How can the Baltic nations better use domestic bioenergy resources and what are the feedstock potentials in the region? How can new cables across the Baltic influence the biopower market? The second day has more focus on technology development: for heat and power production, for cellulosic biofuel production, for substitution of fossil fuels in industries, and for waste to energy (municipal waste and biogas). all presentations have business relevance for fuel producers and energy users, for traders and investors. Numerous current projects will be presented. Nordic Baltic Bioenergy Conference is a place to learn, to meet new partners and to make business. The new power plant replaced old natural gas-fired heat production in Jelgava, thereby improving the city’s energy independence and reducing CO2 emissions from energy production by approximately 44 000 tons annually.Buses leave from the Radisson Blu Hotel Latvija at 09.00.The study visit to Fortum in Jelgava will be back in Riga at approximately 13.00.
