Ease of operation together with reliability are paramount features of the design. Operation of the PB 2 requires only the minimal of manual intervention and a brief annual shut down for inspection and maintenance. The boiler’s automatic tube cleaning system ensures a high boiler efficiency is maintained without the need for frequent shut downs and manual cleaning. A hydraulically driven stepped grate automatically moves the fuel through the combustion chamber and discharges residual ash. Screw conveyors automatically remove ash and dust from the boiler, conveying it to a single collection skip. To increase flexibility, two types of control system are offered, one system for controlling the boiler functions via a simple display and a more comprehensive system for controlling an entire heating plant. It is possible to operate and monitor the system remotely.The Osby PB 2 is the result of many years experience in both boiler design and the handling and combustion of biomass. Lowest floor temperatur 70°C.Functional DescriptionA reception hopper maintains a supply of fuel to the fuel feed conveyor. Level detectors in the reception hopper control the feeding of fuel from the storage silo to the boiler. A variable speed screw conveyor feeds fuel constantly onto the inclined grate where combustion takes place. The grate sits on a plate which forms an integral part of the boiler and both collects heat and cools the grate. Periodic automatic stroking of the grate by hydraulic actuators moves fuel through the combustion chamber and discharges ash into the ash screw conveyor. Fuel feed and air flow are automatically modulated to meet the heat demand from the boiler while maintaining the undergrate pressure and flue gas composition within normal operating limits. The boiler automatically controls between 25% and 100% of design thermal output. Monitoring systemWe offer two different control systems :The simplest system controls and monitors only the boiler functions presenting operating data on a numerical display format. The advanced system can be used to control the entire heating system including hot water distribution pumps and additional boilers. Information is displayed on a screen using clear graphical images. Operation of these screw conveyors is supervised by the control system and provides for the automatic discharge of ash and dust from the boiler.Air ControlCombustion air is drawn into the boiler by a variable speed exhaust gas fan. Throttles above and below the grate control primary and secondary air to the combustion chamber. The air flow to the combustion chamber automatically modulates to meet the thermal demand on the boiler. ServiceDesigned for ease of servicing• The Osby PB 2 is designed and built for operation with a minimal of servicing downtime.• Instrumentation, controls and operating components are easily accessible.• The grate is easily removed from the boiler for inspec-tion and maintenance by releasing a few conveniently located bolts. • The control system continuously monitors operation of the boiler and generates operating logs.
