For this purpose the programme is structured to satisfy the needs of both the wider audience and the scientific specialists. The programme offers overviews of the latest scientific findings, industrial progress and political land-scape through key-note and plenary presentations. It also provide specialised the-matic sessions where details are presented in a more focused and technical man-ner. HOW TO ACTIvELY pARTICIpATE IN THE CONFERENCECall for abstractsThe EU BC&E Executive Committee is committed to maintaining a high scientific lev-el in the conference and to increase its scope in the international dimension while simultaneously increasing the relevance of the conference to industry and policy makers.NewThe 2014 Conference marks the first edition where an industry committee, com-posed of experts in the field, will evaluate the industry-oriented abstracts and will organise a series of sessions exclusively for industry presentations within the EU BC&E programme.During the online submission authors should clearly indicate the orientation of the abstract, whether for “industry” or “scientific” review. Review will of course be con-ducted by the respective Scientific or Industry Committee.Call for parallel EventsThematic sessions integrated into the main conference programmeAmong the many activities of the 22nd EU BC&E will be 4 parallel events focusing on dedicated subjects of particular interest. In order to give the stakeholders the op-portunity to be engaged in structuring the Conference, the call for parallel events is now open.Call for Challenge Events Workshops and Project MeetingsEvents will be welcomed within the framework of the 22nd EU BC&E and promoted on the website as part of the complementary programme. Organise a workshop or a project meeting or your own event during the 22nd EU BC&E This will offer you high visibility and an opportunity to reach the most impor-tant international key players and get in touch with stakeholders in one of the most important networking opportunities.Citability of papersAll submitted final papers of plenary, oral and visual presentations will be published online and coded by a digital identifier (DOI code) provided by the German National Library of Science and Technology. Further-more all submitted final papers will be sent to the Scopus and Thomson Reuters - Conference Proceedings Citation Index (ISI Proceedings) for review and index.peer ReviewContinuing the successful collaboration with Elsevier in 2013, a selected number of the highest scored abstracts from every Conference Sub-ject will once again be invited to be peer reviewed and published in a special issue of Elsevier’s Biomass and Bioenergy Journal. This publica-tion will be in addition to the publication in the Conference Proceed-ings of the 22nd EU BC&E.EU BC&E Student AwardsIn order to encourage high-quality work amongst young re-searchers, the EU BC&E Students Awards will be presented in rec-ognition of the most remarkable and outstanding research work in the field of biomass. The Scien-tific Committee may nominate up to 4 awardees, maximum one for each main Conference Topic. For questions concerning ab-stracts, write to Maureen Yap at papers@etaflorence.it or call +39 055 5002280 ext. 218.CONFERENCE SUBJECTSSUBJECT 1: BIOMASS RESOURCES1.1 Biomass potentials and biomass mobilisation1.2 Biomass feedstock, residues and by-products1.3 Energy crops and energy grasses1.4 Short rotation forestry and short rotation coppice1.5 Algae production systemsSUBJECT 2: BIOMASS CONvERSION TECHNOLOGIES FOR HEATING, COOLING AND ELECTRICITY2.1 Production and supply of solid biofuels2.2 Solid biofuels combustion for small and medium scale applications2.3 Solid biofuels combustion in large utilities2.4 Gasification for power, CHP and polygeneration2.5 Gasification for synthesis gas production2.6 Anaerobic digestion for biogas productionSUBJECT 3: BIOMASS CONvERSION TECHNOLOGIES FOR INTERMEDIATES, LIQUID AND GASEOUS FUELS, CHEMICALS AND MATERIALS3.1 Production of advanced solid biofuels3.2 Pyrolysis and other biomass liquefaction technologies3.3 Oil-based biofuels3.4 Biomethane3.5 Bioethanol and sugar release from lignocellulosic biomass3.6 Synthetic biofuels3.7 Biorefineries and chemicals productionSUBJECT 4: BIOMASS pOLICIES, MARKETS AND SUSTAINABILITY4.1 Markets, Investments & Financing4.2 Sustainability assessment and criteria4.3 Environmental impacts of bioenergy4.4 Resource efficient bioeconomy4.5 Biomass strategies and policiesEXHIBITIONGive your company or your organisation maximum visibility in Europe’s leading in-ternational biomass event. This global platform of current knowledge will attract leading key players from over 60 countries.EU BC&E EXHIBITION FEATURES Excellent business and networking • platformShowcase for technology and • service providers of the Biomass and related sectorsNational pavilions open up market • regionsParallel events and challenge • events focused on particular topicsInteraction with specialists from the • entire Biomass value chainLive presentations of state-of-the-• art technologiesWHY YOU SHOULD EXHIBITPresent your company, your prod-• ucts, your activities and your phi-losophy to international bioenergy professionals.
