The conference will provide engagement for Asia’s national and regional policy makers with the opportunities to meet with and discuss new frameworks for a more sustainable, reliable and self-sufficient energy future.

Forecasts predict that the ASEAN region will consume a massive 54% more energy in 2035 than it does today, of which the significant majority will still come from fossil fuels.

The ASEAN region is also becoming increasingly-reliant on imported energy and with renewable energy consumption still providing less than 6% of the regions energy provision, Future Energy Asia’s conference will deliver the thought-leadership, expertise and innovation required to help shape a more efficient, cooperative energy future for this economically-flourishing region.

Energy Beyond 2030: About 60% of the estimated global investment of $44 trillion in new global energy supply is expected to come from the oil, gas and coal industry by 2040, according to the latest International Energy Agency (IEA) report. Major stakeholders understand there is a critical balance to be achieved through the long-term investment in new energy technologies, yet ensuring that current production opportunities in oil, gas and coal are maximised through efficiency drives that result in more output and less waste.

As we move towards 2030, renewable energy will provide an increased proportion of the region’s energy needs – but it cannot provide it all – and that the reliance on fossil fuels will continue to be paramount. The efficient development of new oil & gas frontiers and improved exploration & production technologies will help provide for the region’s needs in the medium term, towards 2030 and beyond.

Major international, and nationally-owned, energy producers such as Shell, ExxonMobil, BP, Petronas, Total, Pertamina and Sinopec are all driving a robust and broad portfolio of energy asset development to ensure that the ASEAN region’s energy needs can continue to be met over the next few decades.

The conference agenda will fundamentally examine themes around:

  • A consistent and reliable supply of energy for that meets regional demand growth
  • An affordable and fairly-priced supply of energy
  • Greater opportunities for advanced, more efficient exploration & production of fossil fuels
  • A cleaner environment for the region’s citizens to inhabit
  • Smarter, leaner power technologies and power infrastructure
  • A reduction of carbon emissions in line with international agreements
  • Better interconnectivity between regions, cities, communities through improved power networks

Future Energy Asia’s conference will deliver both a robust commercial, and technical, conference agenda that delivers expert global and local speakers examining themes including:

  • The Future Energy Mix to 2030: how ASEAN nations can create a roadmap for sustainable, secure and safe energy provisions.
  • The Role for Gas & LNG as Cleaner Fossil Fuels: as part of an efficient, carbon-friendly energy package that provides balance and reliability.
  • Solar & Wind Fundamentals in ASEAN: developing & investing in solar and wind infrastructure projects successfully.
  • The Future Role for Coal in a Low-Carbon World: understanding the critical role carbon capture & storage (CCS) technology can play in benefiting coal.
  • Future Cities & Smart Buildings: developing ASEAN cities and infrastructure in a more energy-efficient, sustainable and smart way
  • Future Global Cities: welcoming examples of international cities and their Mayors to discuss increasing efficiency, technology interconnection, smarter transport systems.
  • Building Cooperation for Sustainable National Growth: sharing of international policy frameworks to develop sustainably-powered yet economically-advanced nations, with examples such as Denmark, Singapore or the Netherlands.
  • Supporting Small-Scale Renewable Energy Projects: how to better encourage, regulate and finance smaller community-based energy production projects in ASEAN nations.
