Hydro 2013 - Promoting the Versatile Role of Hydro
The annual conferences organized by Hydropower & Dams are the world’s most international events held in Europe for the hydropower profession. HYDRO 2013 will be the 20th in the current series of international events taking place in Europe. Generally around 1300-1500 delegates participate, representing about 85 countries. Emphasis is on the advancement of carefully planned hydro schemes, in the less developed countries, upgrading, retrofitting and new-build in other parts of the world, and many emerging issues such as adaptation to climate change. Tracks of sessions, panel discussions and workshops cover technical, financial, economic, environmental and social aspects of hydropower. Interactive discussion is encouraged.

According to the International Energy Agency, hydro capacity worldwide could double, to almost 2000 GW, by 2050.
Pumped-storage capacity is to increase by a factor of 3 to 5, especially in Europe, Asia and North America.
The African Union is encouraging the implementation of major new hydro projects and encouraging cross-border energy markets, which will harness more of the enormous potential of that region, and enhance socio-economic development in some of the poorest parts of the world.
Full support of the IFIs, development agencies, professional associations and national governments is now firmly behind hydropower, with widespread recognition of the multiple benefits that carefully planned projects can bring.
It is timely for the world hydropower community to be meeting next year in Austria, one of the pioneering countries of Europe for large and small hydro development. The country has much valuable experience to share, an active programme of development under way, a vigorous hydropower industry, and national and regional utilities firmly committed to hydro and pumped-storage.
If you are active in any aspect of the hydro profession, join us in Innsbruck for three days of constructive discussions, and play a role in world hydropower development.

HYDRO 2013 Conference Tours and Excursions
A pre-conference tour, available to all participants on the day of registration (Sunday 6 October) will provide an opportunity to see the main sights of the city, and will include lunch in a local restaurant.
Accompanying persons will be offered three excursions, including the opportunity to explore some of the numerous cultural attractions in the old town of Innsbruck, and also to visit mountain villages and other cities of interest.
Post-conference tours will provide an opportunity for participants to see some of Austria’s many hydro and pumped-storage installations. The Aqua-Media team is currently working with Verbund and TIWAG to ensure that enjoyable and instructive tours will combine the opportunity to see sites of technical interest, to learn about Austria’s ambitious plans for future pumped-storage and hydro development, and to enjoy the surrounding landscape.
Submission of Abstracts
Abstracts of up to 800 words, in English, are now invited on the themes listed or related topics. Please email (or fax or mail) abstracts to the address below. A short CV of each author should be included. Your abstract should summarize precisely the scope and content of the paper proposed. In the case of any project described, please mention its current status or date of completion. If the abstract is sent by email, please incorporate the author’s name in the file name.
Important
Please note that abstracts should only be submitted if the author would be able to attend the conference (or send a representative). Please obtain any necessary clearance, and check your availability to attend, before submitting the abstract.
Speakers will be eligible for a greatly reduced registration fee. In the case of speakers from the less developed countries, in some exceptional circumstances we may be able to secure financial support to cover fees, but it is essential that we know this at the time when the abstract is submitted.
If your paper is accepted, you will be asked to sign a form confirming willingness to attend; it is essential that we receive this undertaking before allocating time for an oral presentation.
The deadline for receipt of abstracts is 8 February 2013. Authors will be notified by June 2013 whether or not their paper has been accepted for presentation, or for publication in the Proceedings.
Abstracts will generally be reviewed by two or more experts on our International Steering Committee, and you may be asked to modify some aspects of your proposed paper. As this review process takes some time, we urge you to submit abstracts promptly (if possible well before the final deadline).
Full papers will be required by 31 July 2013, and format guidelines will be sent to all authors whose papers are accepted.
A PDF and a word document of each final paper will be required.
Full details of the technical and social programmes, more information about the excursions, accommodation and registration fees, will be published in the Final Bulletin, which is planned to be distributed during June 2013.
