Andritz has been awarded a contract by Compagnia Valdostana delle Acque (CVA) to refurbish the 130MW Valpelline hydropower plant located in Italy’s Aosta Valley.
The agreement, valued in the mid double-digit million-euro range, is recorded in Andritz’s third quarter 2025 order backlog.
Originally commissioned in 1958 and utilizing the Place Moulin reservoir—one of Europe’s largest—the plant boasts a net head exceeding 900 meters, ranking among the highest in Europe.
The upgrade includes supplying two new 87MVA synchronous generators, four Pelton runners, spherical valves, penstock parts, and a full overhaul of the cooling and electrical systems.
Andritz will also manage civil works, dismantling, reassembly, commissioning, and on-site supervision, ensuring each generator complies with the latest European grid code requirements.
Upon completion, the refurbishment will boost Valpelline’s installed capacity by 15%, strengthening its role in Italy’s renewable energy supply and enhancing cross-border electricity connections.
