Spanish petroleum company Cepsa announced on Wednesday that it has rebranded as Moeve to better reflect its ongoing commitment to sustainable energy.

This new identity is in line with the company`s 2030 Positive Motion strategy, emphasizing its dedication to accelerating decarbonization and moving away from its fossil fuel past.

Moeve plans to invest EUR 8 billion (USD 8.65bn) in sustainable ventures, including green hydrogen, second-generation biofuels, sustainable chemicals, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. A highlight of these efforts is the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley in southern Spain, where Moeve is developing two 1-GW electrolysis plants and renewable energy projects around its refineries in Palos de la Frontera and Cadiz.

Other significant initiatives include creating a green hydrogen maritime corridor linking southern Spain to northern Europe, constructing a second-generation biofuels plant in Palos de la Frontera, developing biomethane projects, and expanding ultra-fast electric vehicle charging points.

Concurrently, the company has been selling off some of its traditional petroleum assets in Colombia, Peru, and Abu Dhabi.

“Today, we launch Moeve as the symbol of the next chapter in our history within the energy sector. Our company, founded in 1929 as Compañía Española de Petróleos SA, built Spain`s first refinery and led the nation’s initial energy transition. For nearly a century, Cepsa has been a key driver of Spain’s economic progress and growth. However, today, the world demands new, more sustainable energy solutions,” said Moeve CEO Maarten Wetselaar.

The rebranding will be gradually implemented across Moeve`s network of over 1,800 service stations in Spain and Portugal, starting in November.
